After the great opening of the new Severance, I felt I had to return for something worthy of closing Severance with. The forum itself will remain where it is, a testament, and maybe a source for later use if I may decide with the rest that we need a Proboards variant of Severance again.
RETROSPECT is a three - part column/rant/article about the past, the present and the future. I decided for myself to have all three hosted here. I will announce on the website when the next RETROSPECT has been posted here.

RETROSPECT : The Past
One year ago, four people had an idea. We were at the moment deciding about a new forum. One that was next gen, to be honest. The days before, we quitted BattleZone Halo, a forum I ran about Halo and general stuff. Didn't get far, nine members, of which around six decided to continue with a new forum.
That forum was Severance.
We started with the setup of BattleZone Halo, copied here together with the codes and graphics. Well... what you could call graphics, that is. After we started the forum, on 22 april 2005, people trickeled in slowly. It grew rapidly at first, a new and young community bursting out. I kept contact using MSN with Daniel, Manager and Acer, three other founders of the forum, to see what we should do. Most of the stuff worked, and we tested out a lot of features, codes and soon graphics. We had a few GFX'ers around, Sharpee and Blury, while SuNnY was beginning to hold his own too on graphics.
Most of the graphics that now are on this forum come immediately from Blury. I decided in the last month of Severance to make a skin called "The New Old", the one you see right now. It was based on old graphics that worked best.
I had a lot of trouble through the time; First it was having no internet. Some time after I finally had it, my PIII (the computer I use now) broke down for a really stupid reason, I learned just a week ago. I had to use an old PC that hated MSN, making sure I couldn't keep contact with most members. I lost the contact because of that. I also had college break in and steal a lot of time from me, and not much luck.
Looking back, I think this whole year has been full of lessons I've learned. There are some things you have to do to keep a community alive. Not only one thing, but a combination of a lot of things. There's too much to do on your own as a admin. I think it's important to learn from your mistakes so you can use that experience to make things right in your next try.
And well...
Yesterday, the new Severance launched. Surprising some people we've not just gave a small surprise, but a big one. It was pretty succesful, yesterday, but now a new challenge is waiting...
