I'm posting a short piece of my Halo fan fic.
“Where did they go?” Jimmy asked? “I’m afraid I have no explanation.” Cortana replied. Delano and Kopperson came rushing around the corner. “Are you ok sir?” Kopperson asked? “I’m fine.” Jimmy replied. “The 2 Covenant bio-signs disappeared a few seconds ago. Where did they go?” Delano asked? “I have no idea.” Jimmy replied. “What’s that?” Kopperson asked pointing at the Cryo tube? “I wish I knew. It appears to be a Spartan.” Jimmy replied. “I thought you were the only one.” Kopperson asked? “That’s what I thought.” Jimmy replied. “What do we do?” Delano asked? Jimmy keyed the com. “Lt. Randall to Lt. Ransom.” Jimmy said into the com. “Ransom here sir.” Ransom replied. “Are the Covenant still up there?” Jimmy asked? “All but the Hunters sir. They disappeared a few minutes ago. We couldn’t determine why.” Ransom. “Patch me through to Lt. Weston.” Jimmy said. The com crackled for a moment. “Lt. Weston here.” said Paul over the com. “Arm a few men with rocket launchers and get the hog over here ASAP.” Jimmy said. “Problem sir?” Paul asked. “A few covenant were left behind, we’ll need to take care of them and we have….something we need to bring back. Make sure medic Silverton is ready when we get back.” Jimmy said. “Aye sir. We’re on our way.” Paul said. The Com went silent. “Who is it?” Kopperson asked looking into the Cryo tube?
This Spartan would be a link to the past if it was still alive. The Cryo tubes monitor was offline. Amanda would be able to take medical scans when they got the tube back to camp. The com activated and voices rang over it. “Engaging the enemy…contacts sighted….Enemy falling into the structure. Team 1, if you can here this, we’ll be firing rockets into the entrance, hold steady.” said the voices. Jimmy heard rocket fire overhead and dust fell from the ceiling. The com crackled. “Enemy contacts neutralized.” said a voice. Jimmy handed his weapon to Delano. Delano took the weapon. Jimmy grabbed the Cryo tube with both hands and brought it overhead and carried it up the ramp onto the surface. Paul backed the hog right up to Jimmy. Jimmy slid the Cryo tube into the back of the hog. “Who is that?” Paul asked? “We’ll know in a little while.” Jimmy replied. Jimmy drove back to the camp and stopped outside the med-tent. He got out of the hog and went to the back to take the Cryo tube. He lowered the tube onto a table in the med-tent.
Amanda had heard the word of the person in the Cryo tube. She was more then ready when Jimmy put the tube down on the table. She was scanning the tube. She also hooked up a power unit to the tubes’ computer to recover the records. She continued to scan the body. “Hmm… mm, She’s…” Amanda started to say. “What is it?” Jimmy asked? “She’s alive and in remarkably good health for someone her age.” Amanda said. “How old is she?” Jimmy asked? “Roughly…I’d have to say between 70 and 72.” Amanda replied. “Can we wake her?” Paul asked? “Not here. I don’t have the equipment. I’ll need to get her to the Cryo bay and revive her there.” Amanda replied.
Jimmy keyed the com. “Lt. Randall to Skyhawk.” Jimmy said. “Skyhawk here. What can I do for you Lieutenant?” she asked? “We need a pick-up. Silverton and I will be returning to the ship.” Jimmy said. “On my way.” Skyhawk replied. Then the com went silent. Jimmy gently picked up the Cryo tube and carried it out of the tent. He held it on his shoulder until the Pelican arrived. Jimmy sat the tube into the back of the drop ship. A short while later they were back in launch bay 2 of the Interceptor. Jimmy picked up the tube and started to carry it out of the launch bay. “Are you sure you want to carry it all that way. The nearest Cryo bay is 3 decks up.” Amanda said. The com crackled. “Tech officer Peterson to Cortana.” said Peterson’s voice in Jimmy’s helmet. “Cortana, go ahead.” Cortana replied. “I’ve finished installing those relays that you specified.” said Peterson.
“Thank you. Cortana out.” she said. “What’s he talking about? What relays?” Jimmy asked? “Teleporter relays. On the trip here I used a great deal of the time designing a Teleporter grid for the ship. I had tech officer Peterson install it while we were gone.” Cortana replied. “Good, let’s use it to get to a Cryo bay.” Jimmy said. Amanda had refused to use the Teleporter so Cortana, Jimmy and the Cryo tube teleported to the Cryo bay. It was just the same as it was when he tested it back on Earth. A minor tingling feeling in his neck as he re-appeared in the Cryo bay. While they waited for Amanda they set the tube into a slot on the Cryo rack.
Amanda had never quite be comfortable with the whole Teleporter idea. She knew she’d avoid it at every turn if she could. She entered the Cryo bay to find Jimmy plugging the tube into a power conduit. “Is it secure?” Amanda asked? “Yes” Jimmy replied. Amanda began to run more scans of the body. “Will she live through the decompression phase?” Jimmy asked? “Unless she has some ailment we’re unfamiliar with she should be fine.” Amanda replied. They spent a few minutes adapting the tube to the technology of he Cryo bay. Jimmy set up the computer connections. Amanda set the timer for the decompression phase. “Computer is set.” Jimmy said. “Beginning wake-up series.” Amanda said. Several minutes later the computer beeped. “She’s entering REM sleep.” Jimmy read off the monitor.
Captain Harrison had heard about what the team had found underground on the ring. He entered the Cryo bay to see Lt. Randall and Medical officer Silverton taking readings from the computer and Cryo tube. “How’s it coming along?” Harrison? “It’s going well sir. She should be conscious within the next few minutes.” Silverton replied. Harrison looked at the figure in the Cryo tube. It had faded green armor. “Keep me informed.” Said Harrison. Then he left the Cryo bay.
The computer beeped again. “Time to bring her out of it.” Amanda said. Jimmy was feeling scared, anxious, serious and a whole bunch of other things rolled into one. Amanda pressed a button on the console. The Cryo tube hissed and let out a jet of vapor. The lid rose and locked into the upright position. The figure stirred. “Please lie still for a moment. You’ll feel better in a second.” Amanda said. A few seconds later the figure climbed out of the tube. Jimmy stepped forward into the figures view. “State you name and rank.” Jimmy said. The com crackled as it switched to a frequency that hadn’t been used in 30 years.
